I came across a fun reuse (or two) for socks that are lonely on Ruffles and Stuff. She turns them into scarves and glove extensions. Pretty and useful. We mostly turn socks into doll clothing and window draft dodgers. We did discover that the toe part of the sock (minus the absolute top of the toe) make good fitted skirts for Barbie. I am eying one lon ...
Tu Bshvat Flower ideas
Tu Bshvat flowers Tu B'shvat is really about figuring out a date for terumot and maasrot. That is tithing- old fruits versus new fruits, which year they are from so the fruit can go to the correct recipients. In the Bnei Akiva bencher, we actually do include the blessing recited when taking terumot and maasrot. But I didn't really want to do a post abo ...
BiRechov Yirmiyahu- children’s book with textile eye candy
I have been meaning to post about this book for a long time but the Tenth of Tevet is appropriate due to the name of the book and the connection of the Prophet Jeremiah to the period of seige and destruction of Jerusalem. This book has a much happier subject. I found it at Shavua hasefer (book week) this past year and immediately bought two copies and showed it to my class (doll clothing) for inspiration. The book is called BiRechov Yirmiyahu or Jeremiah Street and is written by Libi Daon and illustrated by Lena Guberman.
...Scarves and a few other updates
I know the title starts with Scarves, and I'm including one photo of a scarf at the top, but I am going to start with the updates. Updates Now that Chanukkah/Hanukkah is over we can get back to other topics. I have been working on a variety of graphic design projects but most are identity related and I'm not going to post any at this time. I'm also ...
Hanukkah lights and a few more projects (including felt donuts)
Tonight is the last night of Hanukkah/Chanukkah. I took some photos in the neighbourhood of traditional Jerusalem lamps or lamp boxes and I am including them in this post.
Doll clothing chug update
Although I have not posted recently about the chug (workshop/class), we are meeting again this year and are working on a variety of projects, mostly not doll clothing. Some participants are working on animal shaped ouch relievers (you know, those things that sit in the freezer and when you get an ouch, relieve the ouches) and others are working on scarves, some intended as Hanukkah presents. I'll post photos when they are finished (assuming I remember to photograph them before they get taken home.) Here are a few clothing items that the girls made in the meantime:
...Some more fun things for Hanukkah
Here are a few more fun things for Hanukkah/Chanukkah: The first two are in Hebrew but have a lot of pictures so for readers who don't read Hebrew, you can get the gist of the project anyway. How to for a fondant dreidel necklace My thanks to Tal Tsafrir from Taltalim for allowing me to include a link and use an image of the project. Hanukkah gel ...
Some Hanukkah Craft Ideas
Feltboard menorah with candles:
Basically choose a menorah shape you like from your own imagination or using a clipart shape you can find. Cut out the menorah shape from any color felt you like. Cut out nine rectangles (I did white but given the variety of colors for Chanukkah candles one could use whatever colors you can think of) and 9 "eye" shapes from yellow/orange felt. Use a rectangle shaped piece of felt as a backboard and you've got a Chanukkah felt board. Candles and flames could be reused for Shabbat candles.
...Felt food Latkes Tutorial for Hanukkah
This is a simple felt food latkes tutorial for Hanukkah. Everyone knows that on Chanukkah (Hanukkah or Hanuka- however you want to spell it!) you eat oily foods. The oily foods most connected with Chanukkah are potato latkes (pancakes) and sufganiot (donuts.) This tutorial will show a very simple latke pattern....
Welcoming Guests Parshat Vayera
Abraham and the angels mug by BC Annex For this week's parsha I thought I would post something I made a while back. I originally called it Abraham and the three angels, but the truth is you don't see Abraham or Sarah, but only the three angels. Its sort of in a werkstatte style, turn of the last century. I originally made it as an 8x10 print, but her ...
