If you walked around the streets of Jerusalem (or other Israeli cities) on Hanuukah you would likely see candles in cute little glass boxes:
These boxes keep the candles from going out when they are lit outside and exposed to inclement weather.
I have been thinking about ways of making these as a project or about things that could be used instead. Last year I noticed that a neighbourhood Yeshiva student had used an old broken toaster for the same purpose. While i am not sure the safety of that idea, I still thought the idea as pretty cool. So I was trying to come up with other possibilities. How about a fish aquarium? Maybe not as easy to light or protect, but still neat. I was also thinking about glass soda bottles sawed off or shaped appropriately.
Have you seen any neat “hurricane glasses” for Hanukkah lamps?
