I&#8217;m happy to have a guest post by Daniel Rothner, director of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.areyvut.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Areyvut<\/a> as part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/?tag=mitzvot-unplugged\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mitzvot Unplugged<\/a> series to talk about some of Areyvut&#8217;s creative projects, including Mitzvah Clowning.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/celebrations\/turning-jewish-values-into-concrete-actions-through-areyvut\/attachment\/mitzvahclowns490\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2341\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2341 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mitzvahclowns490.jpg\" alt=\"Group photo Areyvut Mitzvah Clowns via birkat chaverim\" width=\"490\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mitzvahclowns490.jpg 490w, https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/mitzvahclowns490-300x264.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/a>Jewish Values to Action<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.areyvut.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Areyvut<\/a> believes in turning Jewish values from abstract ideas into concrete action.\u00a0 Through our many programs, we instill the core Jewish values of chesed, tzedakah and tikkun olam.<\/p>\n<h2>Mitzvah Clowning<\/h2>\n<p>One such program, <strong>Mitzvah Clowning<\/strong>, teaches participants skills that they can then use throughout their life to bring happiness to others.\u00a0 Participants attend a training and learn about <em>bikkur cholim<\/em> (visiting the sick) and <em>kavod habriyot<\/em> (human dignity), they role play different scenarios, learn how to make balloon animals and apply clown makeup.\u00a0 By the end of their initial training participants have already put into action what they have learned by going on a site visit and bringing joy to senior citizens, children with special needs or others in need of healing and a friendly visit.\u00a0 These newest Mitzvah Clowns then attend monthly friendly visits bringing happiness, joy and laughter to all they meet.<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/celebrations\/turning-jewish-values-into-concrete-actions-through-areyvut\/attachment\/areyvutclowns2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2344\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2344 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/areyvutclowns2.jpg\" alt=\"Group photo Areyvut Mitzvah Clowns via birkat chaverim\" width=\"490\" height=\"625\" srcset=\"https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/areyvutclowns2.jpg 490w, https:\/\/birkatchaverim.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/areyvutclowns2-235x300.jpg 235w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 490px) 100vw, 490px\" \/><\/a>Gaining Skills for Life<\/h2>\n<p>Mitzvah Clowning is a unique program that enables people of all ages and movements to learn a skill and chesed they can use throughout their life. Participants range in age from middle school students to senior citizens and everyone in between.\u00a0 Some people do it as a Mitzvah Project, to fulfill a community service requirement. Others are looking for an outlet to use their skills and talents to serve the community or just to brighten up someone else\u2019s day.\u00a0 A number of participants utilize magic tricks, juggling or even unicycling to add to the experience.<\/p>\n<p>The program is designed so that participants can continue to clown around for as long as they want.\u00a0 Mitzvah Clowning does not only teach participants about chesed. It also provides hands-on communal involvement is all about by enabling them to actively put their Jewish values into practice.\u00a0 Through this and other innovative programs, we hope to instill participants with Jewish values that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.<\/p>\n<p><em>Daniel Rothner is the director of <a href=\"http:\/\/areyvut.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Areyvut<\/a>.
