Tu B’shvat Plantable Recycled Flower Craft

howdoesshe plantable flowers image copyright howdoessheThis recycled flower craft comes fromĀ  HowDoesShe.com. I know it looks like ordinary paper flower roses but in reality, the papers are decked out with seeds and can be planted in the ground. The basic idea is pasting seeds to the paper before making the rose shape. For more details see the project at HowDoesShe?

This could really be done with any flower shape or design. For instance, how about turning the paper into an eight petal origami flower?

Here’s a tutorial from wonderhowto.com:

Is it really recycled?

The truth is that technically these are not recycled paper, although they are recyclable. One could make recycled paper seed paper as well. Homemade paper is not so complicated to do with children. For a tutorial on how to make homemade seed paper see this post on the Nasa website.

Fun for a Celebration

Either of these could be fun to do at a family celebration like a Bar or Bat Mitzvah. We have various floral covers for use with the Bnei Akiva bencher, so you could do a tie in with the covers. Cover designs can be viewed here.

We have many projects that are appropriate for Tu B’Shvat. For instance, flower ideas, various flowers for the hair, and dried fruit trees. These projects also work well for Shavuot.

What about you? Have you made any of these projects before? Do you have any interesting Tu B’Shvat or Shavuot projects? Are you planning on a celebration that uses any of these projects? We would love to hear about it.
